Simei MRT Station (EW3)

The Simei MRT Station (EW3), is an above ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West Line in Singapore. On the East West Line, this station is between Tampines and Tanah Merah stations. This station is physically located between Simei Street 1 and Simei Street 3, at the center of the neighbourhood of Simei, which in the eastern Singapore, and just south of the new town of Tampines. Simei MRT station was the easternmost MRT station on the MRT system from 16 December 1989 to 10 January 2001, before the opening of Expo MRT Station.


The station is handicap friendly, with elevators and wheelchair ramps till the ticket concourse and platform. There is also a flight of six steps to the base level with escalators to the ticket concourse and platform level. An area of radius 400m around the station has also been made wheelchair accessible, as part of a pilot project to make Singapore's public transport system more disabled-friendly.

Facilities

The station has ticketing machines, card top-up machines, an ATM and a postal service vending machine (stamps etc.) There is a laundry shop and a clinic, but further shopping is available at the East Point Mall, co-located with the Simei MRT.

The East Point Mall has six floors, and two basement levels, providing commercial services ranging from electronic goods, hairdressing to cafes, restaurants and food courts. There is also a medium-large Fairprice supermarket in the basement.

Changkat Primary School, Changkat Changi Secondary School and ITE College East is within the vicinity of the MRT as well. A police station and a community club is also located near the MRT Station.
